Let's Catch Up

I've been neglecting my blog so I thought it was about time to update my floral adventures since working at Modern Display! I am currently back in school with only one semester to go before graduation! Let's just say senior-itis is already setting in.

This winter semester I volunteered with two other girls in the department to run and plan the department wedding/floral show. I certainly didn't know what I was getting into but I was ready for a new challenge. Over the next two and a half months we planned, adjusted and planned some more. In the end we had a great turnout and I made some long lasting friends.
Our theme was the creation. Each group was assigned one of the days of creation and interpreted the days into floral designs. We also decided to have a runway show which I was able to create a piece for. The theme for my design was the peacock feather. I decided to construct a floral umbrella for my model to walk down the runway. This was another challenge in itself. But my favorite part is always the mechanics!

This was the end result.

I was also very fortunate to have my family come to visit and see my work. It was my parents anniversary that week so what better way to celebrate than with a bouquet of flowers!

During the semester I also signed up to do the devotional flowers that we have weekly on campus. I really loved creating these designs and plan on doing it again this semester as well.

Another exciting update for this semester was being asked to work in the Flower Center on campus to teach other beginning students basic floral design skills. It almost feels like I was just starting out in Flower Center so having the change to help teach it was a little surreal.  But it's been fun to share and teach the skills I've learned along the way already in the industry. I also helped create a few designs for events held on campus that were ordered through the Flower Center. This was my favorite that I made with fellow design student Lauren.

I also wanted to share just a few of my favorite projects and designs that I created through the rest of the semester. There is just so much to learn and do in this career. I don't think I'll ever get tired of it.

Oh and one more thing! I am almost done creating my own portfolio website. I am going to be debuting it soon! I will keep you posted. I'm so excited to have it about done. Just taking it all one step at a time.
